Alameda Theatre Company is turning five this year, and to celebrate the amazing strides we've made within the artistic lives of Latin American artists in Canada, we'd like to invite everyone to join us in the festivities! Our annual Peña, will feature live music, delicious Latin American fare (provided by La Tortilleria) and an amazing silent auction!
Peña: Alameda's Annual FUNdraiser will be emceed by Just for Laughs Comedienne Martha Chaves and will feature Son Ache, Toronto's own Buena Vista Social Club! Come and dance with one of our cities Salsa institutions! It will be an amazing evening and all for a good cause, to continue to build Latin American theatre in Canada!
Central features of the event include an impressive silent art auction (contemporary Latin American artists and other amazing items), a raffle with a grand prize of an IPad 2, games, great authentic Latin American food by one of the city's best Mexican restaurants, La Tortilleria, music, dancing and a special presentation by our first Nueva Voz participants. Nueva Voz: A Latino Youth Initiative is a program geared to Latino youth aged 14-19. Guests at our fundraising event will be a privileged audience to the graduates of our first program!
Funds raised at the Peña will go directly to the development of excellent new work by Canadian Latin American playwrights through our De Colores Festival of New Works, to continue our youth program, Nueva Voz: A Latin American Youth Theatre Initiative and to enable Alameda to continue producing landmark and groundbreaking plays by Canadian Latin Americans.
