Funkété is a new monthly dedicated to the emerging electronic sounds of Latin America’s underground. From the first instalment, Funkété has been a global mash-up of tropical beats and outernational vibes that shakes up the dance floor into a furry of stomping feet and vibrating hips. On April 25th, Funkété invites Montreal’s finest Cumbia sound crew, Sonido Nordico to play alongside resident DJs No Lo Ves and eLman.

SONIDO NORDICO
Sonido Nordico is the alter-egos of Mariano Franco, Fernando Pinzon and Marie Belzil, members of Montreal’s Psychotropical Orchestra. As a sound crew, they take the traditional Mexican sonidero vibe and flip it on its ear with a mix of electro, dancehall, tech and step to create a tropi-freak sound never heard before. Sonido Nordico was recently selected by the Montreal Mirror as part of their ‘Noisemakers 2009’ series on Monteal artists to watch.

NO LO VES
No Lo Ves aka Alvaro Giron is a Colombian-born, Toronto based visual artista and DJ that digs deep into the crates to drop the finest in Latin Funk, Salsa, Cumbia and House. No Lo Ves has played regularly at Not My Dog and Tinto and is the Latino community’s choice selector for all the hot parties.

ELMAN
eLman aka Sergio Elmir is the host/producer of Dos Mundos Radio. As a DJ he has opened for the likes of Bajofondo, Grupo Fantasma, Santerias, Kumbia Queers, Zizek Collective and more. As a promoter, eLman has pushed the boundaries and perceptions of Latin music by pushing the top DJs and bands from the Latino diaspora including Zizek Collective, Uproot Andy, Rebel Rhythm, Psychotropical Orchestra, Dirty Maria, Kumbia Queers and more. eLman is also a member of Huelepega Sound System, Canada’s only psych-cumbia-dub project.
