6th Annual Canada Salsa Congress
October 9-13, 2008
6th Annual Canada Salsa Congress is a Glamorous Display Filled with Magnificent Performances, Workshops and the Passion of Dance
Date (Toronto) – Not only is salsa fun to dance, but it is undeniably entertaining to watch. Its passion, allure and intensity are as obvious as the smiles on the face of every dancer. Watching such enjoyment makes it virtually impossible not to bring a smile to the face of any spectator.
The 2008 Canada Salsa Congress is the largest salsa dance festival ever staged in Canada. This year’s event takes place from October 9th-13th, 2008 at the Sheraton Centre Hotel (123 Queen Street West) and guarantees spectacular performances, professional competitions, a live salsa band direct from Los Angeles, nightly dance parties, workshops from beginners to advanced levels and so much more.
“The Canada Salsa Congress is an annual event that celebrates the diverse and creative talents of salsa dancers from across the country and all over the world,” says Jennifer Aucoin, Producer. Instructors and performers from Spain, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Sweden, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Boston and across Canada will be in attendance. “The event is designed for both salsa lovers and for spectators who may not dance salsa, but who love to watch high energy, high caliber dance performances.”
On top of the workshops and professional competitions, the four day Congress includes: more than 60 electrifying dance performances by some of the world’s greatest salsa dance companies (Fri. Oct. 10th, Sat. Oct. 11th and Sun. Oct. 12th from 9:30pm -11:00pm); Johnny Polanco y su Conjunto Amistad band from Los Angeles, who will take to the stage on Saturday night; dancing until dawn with four nights of sizzling salsa parties; and a salsa concession area with salsa related products such as shoes, clothing, music and instructional DVDs.
The Canada Salsa Congress is also host to the Canadian Salsa Championships, the official qualifying competition in which first place winners in each division are sent to represent Canada at the 2008 World Salsa Championships in December to be held at Disney World, Florida.
“One of the most amazing things about salsa is its diversity in both performance and peoples,” says Jennifer. “Dancers come from every walk of life and every age group. Night clubs all over the world, from Toronto to Japan, offer places for people to come together and just enjoy the dance and the music.”
North America’s infatuation for watching dance is proven by the popularity of such shows as Dancing with the Stars, So You think You can Dance and America’s Best Dance Crew. If the performers are passionate about it, the spectators cannot help but find enjoyment in it. With top performers from across the nation and around the world converging on Toronto, the Canada Salsa Congress promises four days filled with entertainment. For those who prefer to do rather than watch, workshops are available, with internationally renowned instructors, from beginners to advanced levels.
The Canada Salsa Congress is produced by Steps Dance Studio and runs at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto from October 9th -13th, 2008. For more information on all the activities and to purchase tickets, visit www.canadasalsacongress.com.
