A Very Special And Intimate Concert With Cuba’s Most Popular Pop-Rock Duo – Buena Fe.
When: Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 – 9:00pm
Where: Cerveceria, 842 College
Hurricanes Ike and Gustav recently damaged large parts of eastern Cuba and the provinces of Pinar del Rio and Isla de la Juventud in the west.
Despite extensive preparations by Cuba’s Civil Defence teams, more than 350,000 homes were partially or totally destroyed, 30% of crops lost (including bananas, avocado, and coffee), thousands of farm animals killed and millions of litres milk and more than 3 million eggs perished.
Cuba urgently needs material assistance to begin the process of recovery and reconstruction.
Currently on a world tour for their new – and fifth – album (Catalejo), Cuba’s most popular pop-rock duo Buena Fe (Good Faith) will play a special, intimate concert on Saturday, October 4 at Cerveceria on College. All proceeds will be donated to the Canada-Cuba Friendship Association’s Hurricane Relief project.
Buena Fe, founded in 2000, are singer-song-writer Israel Rojas (a former lawyer) and guitarist Yoel Martinez. Discovered by Cuban label EGREM playing bars and local parties in the province of Guantanamo, they were immediately offered a recording deal and brought to Havana to record in the world-famous EGREM studios. In 2001 the duo released their first album Dejame Entrar and became over-night sensations with their combination of beautiful Cuban-inspired pop-melodies and poetic lyrical compositions. In true Cuban tradition, their songs cover a range of themes from romance to social commentary – often reflecting the true reality of the Cuban people. The band, which often plays to huge, sold-out crowds in Cuba, now has a following around the world and frequently play throughout Latin America, as well as Europe and Canada.
Havana Arte Productions and the CCFA are very pleased to present Buena Fe in concert at the popular Cerveceria bar on College this Saturday October 4 – in aid of the Cuban people badly affected by Hurricanes Ike and Gustav.
