November 06th to 09th, 2008 at Bloor Cinema. The films have English subtitles.
2008 Festival
2008 marks the second year of the Brazilian Film Festival of Toronto. In addition to the screening of films, this year’s festival will also focus on promoting co-production between Brazil and Canada. The festival will also feature Upto3´, a special animation event designed for new media markets, and it will explore the topic of relationships.
Competitive program
The films selected by the film critic and journalist, Celso Sabadin, will compete for Best Film, Director, Actor, Actress and Audience Choice. The Brazilian designer Nilson J. Santos created the Golden Maple Award for this occasion. The Audience Choice for Best Film will receive an award given by Quanta Studios.
Up to 3'
A parallel event called Up to 3' is dedicated to animation films, up to 3 minutes in duration. The selection of the works will be done by the organizers to show brazilian expertise in the genre of: games, comics, new media platforms, publicity and entertainment. Up to 3 is organized by Silvia Prado, Gilberto Caserta, Cecilia Queiroz e Bárbara de la Fuente.

Team
The Brazilian Film Festival of Toronto was born out of the partnership between the two companies: Puente in Brazil and Southern Mirrors in Canada. Their projects aim to promote Brazilian culture in Canada and have included events such as Sounds of Ipanema - A Tribute to Tom Jobim and Nelson Rodrigues Festival.

On June 29, 1958, Brazil defeats host nation Sweden 5-2 to win its first Soccer World Cup. Apart from introducing to the world the legendary team with Pelé, Garrincha and Didi, the title was a landmark in the nation's self esteem. Brazilians were not only proud of the victory but were totally overtaken by a sudden feeling they had never experienced before due to the traumatic defeat to Uruguay at the 1950 final match at Maracana. The film pays homage to the greatest heroes of Brazilian soccer.
