The 6th annual ReelWorld Film Festival is here and we are proud to bring you a stellar line-up of Canadian and world premieres. The Opening Night Gala Screening, Kamataki, is a moving story of a young man who finds healing in Japan after the loss of his father, from veteran director Claude Gagnon, starring Matt Smiley. The Closing Night Gala Screening is a South Korean action film, A Bitter Sweet Life, has a touch of OLD BOY, THE PROFESSIONAL and KILL BILL (vol. 1 & 2), all rolled into one, starring legendary Korean actor Kim Yeong-Chul.
Other highlights include Red Doors, a dark comedy about a dysfunctional Asian American family. This independent film captured the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival award for best narrative feature and is being adapted for a television series. Famed Indian director Nagesh Kuknoor brings us the passionate story of a deaf and mute village boy who dreams of entering the prestigious Indian Cricket Team tournament in the touching Special Presentation film Iqbal.
Our Special Presentations concludes with the hilarious comedy FLIP THE SCRIPT, by first time director Terrah Bennett Smith. Young, single, black and confused, is the theme that runs through the vein of this modern romantic comedy of errors.
ReelWorld Film Festival is very proud to present an outstanding Industry Series. How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer

First time Latin director Georgina Garcia Riedel's comedy How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer stars Lucy Gallardo, Elizabeth Peña, and America Ferrara as three generations of Mexican American women in a family during one hot summer in the small border town of Somerton, Arizona.
Riedel weaves her three plot strands together with ease so each actor reflects and plays off the others. Seldom has sexual desire by women found its way to the screen with such poignancy and power. However, the tenderness with which Riedel shows the sometimes comical or sometimes emotional inner lives of the Garcia girls is all the more refreshing at a time when cinema seemingly can explore every side to sexuality except that of love.

Daughters of the Wind (Filhas Do Vento)
In a world of choices and consequences, Daughters of the Wind tells the stories of two black sisters in Brazil who lead polar opposite lives and are reunited at their father’s funeral after a long and painful separation.
Barrio Cuba

In this touching story, director Humberto Solás invites audiences into the Havana he knows best — one that few tourists will ever see.
Against a backdrop of crumbling buildings and rickety structures that result from 40 years of U.S. embargo, Barrio Cuba shares the complex stories of seven courageous people whose lives are woven by a mosaic of events and emotions.
David
Set in Mexico, David begins with a chance encounter between two men. The strangers find unexpected ways of communicating through messages and games. As the evening progresses, their bond grows stronger. Director Roberto Fiesco tenderly avoids sensationalizing or passing judgment on the relationship between his protagonists. Instead, the film does what so few films dare to do by depicting a union that does not fit into our conventional expectations. Ultimately, it exposes a brief moment when two lonely men find a way to connect.
Recuerdo Del Mar (Reminiscence)
Three minutes and 30 seconds is all it takes director Max Zunino to hauntingly stamp a lasting image on his audience’s mind. Recuerdo del mar (Reminiscence) recreates a child’s first contact with the sea. It is one he will never forget.

El día menos pensado (one of these days)
Director Rodrigo Ordonez asks a bleak and captivating question: What would happen if the largest city in the world ran out of clean water? A mature couple faces the threat of losing their home while defending their last drops of water at gunpoint. Through their eyes, we see an intriguing juxtaposition of themes: slick confidence versus disturbing desperation.
Mi Radio (My Radio)
A fantastic radio station that exists in the mind of a little girl, will allow us to glimpse her world and the beings that reside in it. This creative exploration of animation and live action is a charming and innovative film that will appeal to children of all ages.
